Tehelka - Operation West End

All of us who followed the corruption cases in Indian cricket must be familiar with tehelka.com. This web portal was instrumental in bringing to us the videotapes of Manoj Prabhakar's accusations rocking the cricket world. These people are back in news with a new corruption case, only this time it is not about cricket but about the corruption in the defence equipment procurement. They have exposed the vulnerability of our government ministries to corruption. What is most shocking is that it is about people in the Ministry of Defense. This puts at risk our national security and the lives of those thousands of Jawans posted on the border to protect our country for meager wages and those gallantry medals.

Operation West End was an operation disclosed on 12th of March this year by tehelka.com who were behind this. The whole operation started last august with the launching of a fictitious company called 'West End International' with its base in London, willing to sell some non existent stuff to the Indian army. They started at the lowest end of the chain by contacting a senior sections officer in the Ministry of Defense, he led to a serving brigadier in the Indian army and then the rest of the chain which went a long way up in the Defense Ministry, the army and some senior political leaders. This operation was so successful that they got themselves approved for technical evaluation without anything to show. The web portal claims they had got this far
